RUMOR: Kyle Rudolph, Anthony Barr, other vets are top cut candidates for Vikings

With the season of the Minnesota Vikings coming to an end on Sunday, the team’s front office is now looking ahead towards the next season.

According to reports, there are a number of veterans on the squad that is no longer part of the team’s long-term plans. Kyle Rudolph and Anthony Barr headline this reported cut list, along with a few other vets.

The Vikings are going to have some tough decisions regarding the fate of some of their most prized veterans. Anthony Harris, Kyle Rudolph, Riley Reiff and Anthony Barr all might have played their final game with the Vikings.

According to the aforementioned report, Rudolph might prove surplus to requirements for the Vikings next season:

Rudolph presents another tough decision. He just restructured his deal, and the Vikings would incur a $4.35 million in dead cap if they cut Rudolph, but they already have two good tight ends and Rudolph will turn 32 next season.

The same can be said of 28-year-old Anthony Barr, whose season was characterized by a potentially career-threatening injury:

It was a disappointing year for Barr, who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2. He spurned the New York Jets two years ago to return to the Vikings but could be subjected to a release or a restructured deal to allow the team to get cap-compliant.

It is worth noting that Minnesota was the team that operated the closest to the salary cap this season, and with the cap expected to decrease significantly next term, the Vikings will be left with little choice but to find ways to cut their salary expenses.
